Making the World a Better Place

It’s been a while since I’ve written one of these, but it’s currently 2:12 AM on Tuesday, April the 2nd as I write this. Should I be fast asleep? Absolutely. Do I have too much on my mind to go to sleep? Also, Absolutely. Am I a bit of an insomniac? Yes, but I’m not willing to admit that quite yet…

For those of you who don’t know, I work on campus as an Admissions Ambassador for the Indiana Wesleyan University Admissions Department. I give campus tours, help run visit days, and all sorts of other fun things where I get paid to socialize with visitors. I love my Job (for the most part) and love all the fun and interesting people I get to meet along the way. I started this position last January, and since last January, when I was trained on how to do Campus Tours, I’ve kept track of exactly how many campus tours I’ve done. I average about 3 tours a week but sometimes it’s more than that, depending on needs. Two weeks ago, I hit my One-Hundredth Campus Tour, which was pretty exciting for me personally.

After that happened, I interviewed for our school newspaper called “The Sojourn.” They asked me several questions but one of them included, “Why do you like doing Campus Tours?”. I took a minute to think about it, then I answered. Working for Admissions is SUCH a ministry opportunity. The heart of our Campus is Jesus Christ, and we’re very unapologetically Christ-centered, which I absolutely love. Our Mission Statement is literally “A Christ-centered academic Community devoted to developing students in character, scholarship, and leadership”. I love the fact that I get to share Christ with each and every guest I interact with. My biggest prayer daily is that they can see Christ through me and that I can be an ambassador for him. I have a sign on my door that says, “Lord, Let them see you in me”. I read that to myself each and every time I walk out of my room and try as hard as I can to live it out. The key word there is TRY. Am I perfect at it? Absolutely not. Are there times when I stumble or don’t succeed? Absolutely. Do I have my hard days like everyone else? You better believe it. Overall, do I put forth genuine effort? Yes. I firmly believe that God sees that I’m trying, and that’s what counts. He’s the only one that’s truly perfect, and I shouldn’t try to live up to perfection.

As I’ve been reflecting over all the work that God has done in my life, I got to thinking tonight though, isn’t it cool how EVERY time we interact with ANYONE, we have an opportunity to share Jesus? That’s mind-blowing to me and it ignites my fire within my heart. It can be as simple as Smiling at the person who doesn’t smile back at you or being nice to people who aren’t necessarily nice to you. If you’ve never read any of the Gospels, Spoiler Alert: Jesus DIED for the sins of the people who weren’t nice to him. You see, when we have a desire to KNOW Jesus, that stems a desire to share him with other people. Sometimes people make it out to be complex stuff but it truly doesn’t have to be. As followers of Christ, the two GREATEST commands we’re given are to Love the Lord Our God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength and to love our neighbor as ourselves. It looks different for everyone but my prayer as I go into this next week is that God will open doors for me to love my neighbor as myself. Whether it means holding the door for someone, or smiling at a person from across a room, I pray that we can all live that out, because THAT’S what makes the world a better place.

I’m blessed with a ton of connections and so, If you’re reading this and you don’t know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, but want to know more about what that looks like, PLEASE reach out, I’d LOVE to have a conversation and tell you about how Jesus has changed my life and how he can change yours!
